The demo, factually

On April 9, 2026, Total Mayhem Games surprise-dropped a demo for We Were Here Tomorrow on Steam, timed with the Triple-i showcase. The facts:

  • Content: the Norcek opening area with three co-op puzzles
  • Availability: one week only
  • Status now: delisted — it cannot be downloaded or replayed
  • Steam app ID: 4421200 (for reference; the listing is gone)

If you played it, you have seen the game's opening. If you missed it, there is currently no way to try the game before buying — and no, it is not coming back as far as anything official says.

What the demo showed

The demo covered the Norcek opening: the two Explorers waking in the facility, the Director's guidance over the walkie-talkie, and three cooperative puzzles establishing the game's core loop — asymmetric views, precise verbal description, and the two signature abilities (the throwable cube and the grapple gun). It was a vertical slice of the opening, not a separate side story.

What the demo did not show

Everything past Norcek. The full campaign runs about 15 hours across eight trophy-listed areas — the Exotic Matter Laboratory, Particle Accelerator Terminus, R&D Headquarters, Temporal Research Centre, TRC Construction Site, Beyond the Rift, and Theta Splice / Rift Zero — none of which appeared in the demo. The demo was a small opening slice of a fifteen-hour game.

How much has changed since April?

Six months separate the demo from the October 20, 2026 release. What we know and do not know:

  • Confirmed: the full game is out, the trophy list is public (~37 entries), and the campaign is ~15 hours.
  • Not yet confirmed: whether the Norcek opening puzzles changed between the demo build and release. Demo players should treat their memory of specific puzzles as possibly outdated — do not "solve from memory" on your first session; re-survey each space as if new. The stuck-help guide covers the re-survey habit.
  • Not yet confirmed: whether any demo-exclusive content or mechanics carried over, or were cut.

Demo knowledge is a head start, not a walkthrough. If a puzzle you remember behaves differently in the release build, trust the release build — six months of development separate them.

"I played the demo — what should I do differently at launch?"

  1. Replay Norcek fresh. Do not speedrun it from memory. Verify each puzzle as if you have never seen it; changed details will ambush the overconfident.
  2. Keep your demo partner if you can. You already have the communication rhythm — the most valuable thing the demo gave you was not puzzle knowledge but a tested partnership.
  3. Reset expectations on scope. Three puzzles in one area was the demo. The full game is eight areas and fifteen hours. Pace accordingly — see How Long to Beat.
  4. Trophy hunt from the start. The demo had no trophies; the release has ~37. If you are chasing 100%, start the collectible awareness (plushies) from Norcek — see the trophies guide.

Timeline: demo to launch

Date Event
April 9, 2026 Surprise demo drops on Steam alongside the Triple-i showcase; Norcek opening area, three co-op puzzles
April 16, 2026 (approx.) Demo's one-week window ends; listing delisted
September 20, 2026 Official announcement confirms price ($19.99), launch discount, and release timing
October 20, 2026 Full release; Steam unlock 12:55 UTC

Six months of development separate the demo from the release. That is enough time for puzzle redesigns, mechanic tuning, and content changes across the whole game — including the Norcek opening the demo showed.

Why the demo matters for guide coverage

The demo is the reason this site's walkthrough hub treats Norcek as "verification in progress" rather than "known." Demo knowledge is secondhand knowledge of an older build: useful for orientation, unreliable for specifics. Every area guide here is verified against the release build from both players' perspectives — including Norcek, despite the April demo having shown that area.

"I missed the demo — am I at a disadvantage?"

No. The demo was one week, one area, three puzzles, six months ago. The release build may differ even in Norcek. Every player starts the full game on effectively equal footing — grab a partner, read the beginner tips, and set up with the co-op guide.
